My name is Ray Cabance, I am a criminal justice major and have been in working in my field of study for 5 years now. Currently employed at the State of Pennsylvania Corrections. Former United States Marine and former United States Army Soldier. I love to continue my education because after the military, I developed a craving for self improvement and traveling. One of the reasons why I chose these military pictures, is because in whatever things I do in life, I always fell back on what I learned, saw, experienced, etc. back when I was in the military. If you would like to know more here is a link to My Proust Questionnaire. This is also a scene in life and how I am when times are rough. I tend to zone out the bad and focus only the good. Which is probably a weakness but oh well, enjoy.
It was a scorching late October night at Parris Island, South Carolina. We just got back to the barracks after a hard gruelling day of training. I was very tired and half asleep and the day doesn’t seem to end. The drill instructor calls us for mail call and we gather around him like sheeps to a shepard. One by one the drill instructor goes through the mail, but I know my family and friends will not really send me anything like the other recruits. So I began to daydream. Filthy covered with mud, sand, and sweat I felt very alone, miserable, tired, cold, and wet. When suddenly, the drill instructor calls my name. “Cabance!” the drill instructor yells. Half asleep, I hopped into standing attention. “Here sir!” I answered. “Cabance… Be positive,” the drill instructor said with a blank stare and not blinking. I wanted to burst into tears when he said that. I had admire this instructor, he is a war hero with many confirmed kills, and medals, however, he never had anything good to say. With a dumb smile like a kid, I repeated what he said, “Be positive. Yes sir. I will sir.” Then he yelled, “No you dumbass! That’s your blood type.”
